Amtec Engineering brings out Tecplot version 9.0

Of the many significant new capabilities in Tecplot 9, three stand out as the most obvious:

  • 3D rendering is at least an order of magnitude faster.
  • New 3D interactive tools make exploring and analyzing large data sets quick and easy.
  • Plots are rendered with strong, vibrant colors and optional translucent surfaces.

Other improvements include a true color model, integrated 3D view controls, user defined curve fits, and raster image export. Algorithms for probing, point extraction, and interpolation were also optimized.

New features in Tecplot 9.0:

Enhanced with OpenGL
OpenGL has been implemented in Tecplot 9.0 allowing Tecplot to take advantage of the exceedingly fast graphics cards in today's computers.

Fast 3-D Rendering
OpenGL and other algorithm enhancements in Tecplot 9.0 make 3-D rendering substantially faster and more accurate than Version 8.0. 3-D rotations, zooms, and translations can now be performed with fully rendered images.

Vivid Colors
Color contour flooding and light-source shading on 3-D surfaces are now rendered in true color allowing you to make your plots and animations look stunning.

3-D Slicing Tools
Load your 3-D volume data sets into Tecplot 9.0, select the new Slicing Tool from the Sidebar, and Slice away. Flooded contours, mesh lines, vectors, and/or scatter symbols are immediately displayed on your slices. Sweep a slice through the volume to explore your data. Slice in several places at once. You do not have to extract a slice into a zone to display it.

3-D Isosurface Tool
Explore a 3-D data set by interactively increasing and decreasing the isosurface value. Show one or more at the same time. Just like the new Slice Tool, you no longer have to extract isosurfaces into zones to display them.

3-D Streamtraces
Streamtraces are now easier to place in 3-D volumes by optionally placing streamtrace seeds on slices or isosurfaces within the volume. Like the Slice and Isosurface Tools, streamtraces in Tecplot 9.0 are rendered immediately after you have placed a streamtrace seed. Also, selecting and deleting existing streamtraces is now much easier.

Layout
Information to recreate slices, isosurfaces, and streamtraces is saved in the Layout File. Tecplot 9.0 can recreate these objects without having to save them in your data file.

Translucency
With Tecplot 9.0 you can make slices, isosurfaces, stream ribbons/rods, and other zonal surfaces translucent. Translucency allows you to add more information into your plots.

Integrated 3-D View Control
Rotate, zoom, and translate are accessible from the mouse buttons. No longer spend time switching tools. Roller-ball rotation tool integrates the "twist" tool with the traditional roller-ball motion. Zoom and translate are also available via mouse buttons when using other Sidebar tools such as Probe and Translate.

Raster Image Export
Produce vibrant 24-bit true-color bit images and optionally reduce them to 256-color model for compactness. You can specify the image resolution independently of the video screen resolution, when outputting the file.

User-defined Curve Fits
The Add-on Developer's Kit (ADK) has been enhanced to allow the easy creation of Tecplot Add-ons that extend Tecplot's curve fit capability. Within hours users can create customized curve fits using their special proprietary algorithms. Also included is an Amtec supplied Add-on that provides interactive definition of general curves.
