Introduction

The XPRESS Solver Engine extends the power of the Premium Solver Platform to handle linear programming problems with up to millions of variables and constraints, with no fixed limits on problem size. It solves mixed-integer linear (LP/MIP) problems with great speed and supports the 'alldifferent' constraint in the Premium Solver Platform.

Virtually unlimited capacity and lightning speed

Using the XPRESS Solver Engine, you will be able to solve linear programming (LP) problems that are ten thousand times larger than what the standard Excel Solver can handle as there are no fixed limits on variables and constraints. Extremely fast solution times can be obtained whereby problems with tens of thousands of variables and constraints can often be solved in just seconds. Typically, problems are solved several hundred times faster than the Premium Solver Platform's built-in engine.


Breakthrough performance on mixed-integer problems

The XPRESS Solver Engine is extremely fast on linear programming problems, but its performance on mixed-integer linear programming problems is even more impressive. Many optimisation experts consider XPRESS-MP to be the world's best general-purpose mixed-integer optimiser. Mixed integer programming (MIP) problems that take hours or even days to solve, even with Premium Solver's built-in mixed-integer strategies, will often solve remarkably quickly in XPRESS Solver – sometimes in just seconds.


Fast problem setup

Large linear and quadratic programming models often require a significant amount of time in problem setup, then reach a solution quickly. With some work in redesigning your model to use functions such as SUM and SUMPRODUCT, the XPRESS Solver Engine can give you speedups as much as 100 times faster. Since the XPRESS Solver Engine can use the new Polymorphic Spreadsheet Interpreter in the Premium Solver Platform to extract the LP and QP coefficients of your model, most of this speed benefit can be obtained without redesigning the model at all. Furthermore, the coefficients are up to twice as accurate as they were without the Polymorphic Spreadsheet Interpreter.

Software maintenance

Annual maintenance is required for the first year, and at all times in order to obtain software upgrades and technical support beyond basic installation assistance. The maintenance includes:
