• Do I need to uninstall an older version of Strater before installing a new version?

You do not need to uninstall previous versions of Strater (i.e Strater 1) before installing Strater 3, provided you install them in different directories. By default, this will be the case.

You do not need to uninstall a previous version of Strater 3 before installing an updated version of Strater 3, as the installation package will automatically do this for you.

  • How can I get the latest version of Strater?

Minor updates (i.e. version 3.0 to 3.4) may be downloaded for free if your serial number is registered. Connect your computer to the Internet, then go to Help | Check for Update in Strater. This will download the latest patch and install it on your machine.

  • How do I install or uninstall Strater?

Installing Strater 3 requires that you be logged into an account that has Administrator rights. Golden Software does not recommend installing Strater 3 over any previous version of Strater. Please ensure that you install Strater 3 into a new directory, which is what will happen by default. Strater 3 can co-exist with older versions as long as they are in different directories.

To begin the installation, either insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive, or double-click on the downloaded EXE file to run it. See below for details of each method.

    1. Insert the CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive. The Setup program automatically begins on most computers.

    2. Choose the "Install Strater" option from the screen and setup will begin.

If the Setup program does not automatically start, double-click on the My Computer icon on your desktop. • Should I install Strater 32-bit or Strater 64-bit?

If you are using a 32-bit version of Windows, then you should install Strater 32-bit.

If you are using a 64-bit version of Windows, we recommend installing the 64-bit version of Strater 3. Although Strater 32-bit is capable of installing and running on Windows 64-bit, the 32-bit version of Strater 3 does not take advantage of the increased 64-bit memory space.

  • What are Strater's system requirements?

Windows XP SP2 or higher, Vista, or 7 (32-bit and 64-bit supported)

At least 512 MB RAM minimum

At least 100 MB free hard disk space

1024 x 768 or higher monitor resolution with 16-bit (or higher) color depth

  • Where can I find my serial number?

Your Strater serial number is located on the CD cover or in the email download instructions, depending on how you purchased Strater. After you install Strater and run it for the first time, you can also find your serial number by opening the software and going to Help | About Strater. The About Strater dialog will show the serial number.

  • Why should I upgrade to Strater 3?

Strater 3 offers a host of new features to make your well log, borehole and cross section plotting easier than ever! Along with a 64-bit installation and new export options, Strater 3 now offers true cross section creation, maps, two new log types, and conversion between measured depth and true vertical depth. Strater 3 is a must have upgrade for anyone utilizing Strater 1 or 2.
