  • Licensing and activation issues

When licensing SPSS, I cannot enter my authorization code because the field is too small and can't be selected. What do I do?
This is due to display settings on your computer. Please see the steps to resolve here.

When I enter my authorization code, it says 'invalid license code'. What can I do?
A valid SPSS authorization code is always 20 characters in length and only made up of any numbers 0-9 and any lowercase letters a-f. You should take care not to enter spaces or punctuation marks in the field. Please check carefully if you receive the message 'invalid license code'. If you typed the code in, try copying and pasting. If pasted, try typing. If you still have issues, contact us via live chat.

    When I start SPSS, I receive a licensing error (error code 2085, 2072, 7003, 7001 or 2). What should I do?
If you have a valid license code, you should complete these licensing steps. If you continue to have problems, please contact us via live chat.

I already have SPSS installed, how do I update my license code?
Please locate the SPSS License Authorization Wizard installed on your computer. Please run the wizard (Windows users should start it by right-clicking and choosing 'Run As Administrator') and complete the steps, entering your authorization code when prompted.

When I start SPSS, I receive the error "Attempt to connect to a remote server failed inet: local computer". What do I do?
This could be an unsupported version of the Mac OSX operating system or another problem. Please see information here to fix this problem.

When I license my product, I receive the message "Authorization failed. You are not authorized to generate any more licenses". How can I install it?
If you attempt to install SPSS for more installations than you purchased without contacting us, the registration will fail. If you have exceptional circumstances requiring another installation, please contact us to discuss. If you require it installed on more machines, you will need to buy additional licenses.

When I start SPSS I receive error 2072 and symptom 4. What do I do?
Please refer to this page regarding SPSS Licensing errors.

Also known as a Network or Simus license this type is available for use by many people- one person at a time can use each Concurrent license. The licensing is managed on a network server and individual computers which can ‘see’ that server can access the licence.

  • What is a lock code?

This is a code that is specific to your computer and this is used in conjunction with the authorisation code to generate your unique license code that activated your SPSS license. The lock code is displayed when you run the license authorisation wizard.

  • What is an authorisation code?

This is a 20 digit (numbers and letters and no spaces) code which activates your license for the functions of SPSS you have purchased.  It is a good idea to copy and paste the code as sent to you as it is easy to confuse zero 0 and O and the code needs to be exactly as provided.

  • Where do I find the SPSS installation files?

Once you purchase an SPSS license or upgrade to a new version we will send you a document that provides a link from where you can download the application. The download will automatically ask you if you wish to install SPSS. If you are using a university license you may need to ask your IT department for this link. Alternatively you can find a downloadable copy on the IBM website (google IBM SPSS trial download) this will require you register as a user on the IBM website.

  • Where do I find the SPSS Programs that I have installed?
