What's new in v14

PIPE-FLO Professional is widely used in the three phases of piping projects: Engineering, Commissioning and Operations. The heart of the PIPE-FLO program is the piping simulation model which once created will continually update as the system evolves. The model allows PIPE-FLO to reflect the operation accurately as new information becomes available and throughout the life of the facility.

By integrating even tighter standards to PIPE-FLO Professional v14 and increasing the number of calculations and warning messages, we have made it much easier for our clients to improve the accuracy of their piping operation modeling, this is the first major upgrade to the program since February 2013.

“We are extremely excited about how much easier this new platform is going to be for our customers," said Betts. "More than ever, the program has a positive impact on a plant's ROI."

Several new improvements have been included in this latest release:

  • Inlet and Outlet Static Pressure, Hydraulic Grade and Energy Grade are now calculated and reported for pipes. Improved Control Valve calculations for evaluation of Choked flow conditions.

  • Percent deviation is now calculated for all devices to adjust calculation settings to achieve higher accuracy as necessary.

  • License Messaging is now more specific to aid in troubleshooting, License Identification aid in network license configuration.

  • Gradient Color improvements, this allows for clear diagnostics, model troubleshooting, and enhanced presentation views when performing simulations of plant operations.

  • Value Labels have been added to the Gradient Window for easier interpretation of colors. The user can now define the Value Range for a gradient and only items in that range will be colored, opening more possibilities for presentation and enhancing the value of Gradients for macro scale interpretation of the model.

  • Data Import feature added to import large amounts of data from a variety of sources into your PIPE-FLO model. This includes support for loading design data with more power and flexibility than what was previously offered by Xlink in PIPE-FLO 2009.

Flow of Fluids Premium provides accurate results for series, branching, and looped systems (both open and closed) with up to 25 pipelines. If you can draw your piping system, Flow of Fluids Premium will show you how it operates.

Flow of Fluids Premium can handle gasses as well as liquids. For more detailed information on using Flow of Fluids Premium on gas systems click here. The program also allows users to select pumps directly from more than 75 manufacturers' supplied electronic pump catalogs to ensure that you select the correct pump for your system.

Gas Systems

Flow of Fluids Premium uses the Darcy-Weisbach method for calculating the pressure drop in a pipeline. This method assumes the density of the fluid is constant in the pipeline. The Darcy-Weisbach method provides satisfactory results under the following conditions:

If the calculated pressure drop is less than 10% of the inlet pressure, then reasonable accuracy will be obtained if the density used for the fluid is based upon either the upstream or the downstream conditions.

If the calculated pressure drop is greater than 10%, but less than 40% of inlet pressure, reasonable accuracy can be achieved using the density based on the average of the upstream and downstream conditions.

For pressure drops larger than 40%, use a method that incorporates the compressibility of the gas.

Using the above guidelines Flow of Fluids Premium can provide accurate results for gas distribution systems found in plants and buildings.


PIPE-FLO Compressible

Provides an accurate picture of the operation of compressible gas systems with large pressure drops, high gas velocities, and vacuum systems.

PIPE-FLO Compressible simulates the operation of piping systems transporting compressible fluids including steam and gases under a variety of expected operating conditions. PIPE-FLO Compressible has no limits as to the number of pipelines it can handle and it provides accurate results for series, branching, and looped (open & closed) systems. If you can draw your piping system, PIPE-FLO Compressible will show you how it operates.

PIPE-FLO Compressible performs a rigorous calculation of compressed gas systems balancing the flow rates and pressures throughout the system. In addition, it calculates the physical properties of the gas as it flows through the piping system, and checks for choked flow or sonic conditions in each pipeline of the system.
