About University of Southern Queensland

The University of Southern Queensland is a leader in flexible learning, has a significant profile in regionally relevant research and is closely engaged with its communities. The University was awarded the Commonwealth of Learning Award of Excellence for Institutional Achievement at the third Pan-Commonwealth Forum on Open Learning, in July 2004. Other awards include the Joint Winner of the Good Universities Guides' University of the Year: 2000-2001 Award and in 1999, USQ won the Inaugural Award for Excellence from the International Council for Open and Distance Education, as a world leader in 'dual mode' (on-campus and off-campus) education.

The Mathcad Solution

The University of Southern Queensland uses Mathcad in their 2nd year subject Electrical Measurement and Analysis. This course introduces the principles and practical aspects of generation, transmission distribution and control of electrical energy.

Mathcad is an integral part of this subject and is used to assist students with:

  • Mathematical and graphical analysis of data

  • Analysing single and three-phase circuits

  • Analysing test measurements and circuit performance mathematically in both time and frequency domains

  • Identifying and classifying error sources

  • Evaluating the results of tests and measurements taken from circuitry constructed by the student.

This course is taken by students from the power engineering industry. Today's top engineers use Mathcad to perform, document and share calculation and design work. The Mathcad Electrical Engineering Library provides hundreds of standard calculation procedures, formulae and reference tables used by electrical engineers.

All Mathcad licensing and support for University of Southern Queensland is handled by Hearne Software.
